Race Recap: Elvis is Alive 5k

One of the perks of being an #ffcheer team member is free race entries.
I like that perk.

I know my time was 28ish minutes, give or take a few seconds and an extra .06 according to Garmin. Average pace was 9:22. We got lucky with a cool-ish evening, but it was quite sunny. In the spirit of Elvis I wore my sunglasses (the non-running kind) but took them off when the sun wasn't bothering me. It was a pretty crowded course the entire time as it takes place on the lake front path but I wasn't annoyed with it as I ran on the grass and found pretty good holes between runners at some points.

I was running pretty steady and then at some point in the last half mile one of the members of a gym I used to work at passed me, so I sped up and tried to catch up to him to give him a hello. I never got to him but I kept up for a bit but I was dying and slowed a bit the last tenth. He really helped to pick up my overall pace, so it was still a win for me. (Somehow we ended up running into each other on the way to the train and we caught up for a bit.)

I really enjoyed this race. It isn't timed, it's a family fun run. Loads of people dress up as Elvis or wear Elvis inspired things, but that's a bit obvious. They had some great post-race food, cold, crisp watermelon, frozen bananas dipped in chocolate, etc. YUM! It was also special because I got to meet all my fellow #ffcheer members! And I got my singlet, love it!

Overall, this is race is awesome for some family and friend fun!

  1. This is one race that I'd love to do in Chicago. I hear it's a lot of fun!
